El Salvador has a relationship with coffee that goes back more than a century. From the large coffee estates that defined the country’s economy to the small producers who now lead the specialty coffee movement, the story of Salvadoran coffee is one of resilience and reinvention.

The coffee regions

El Salvador has six recognized coffee-growing regions, each with unique characteristics shaped by altitude, volcanic soil, and microclimate. Apaneca-Ilamatepec is perhaps the most internationally renowned, but regions like Chalatenango and Tecapa-Chinameca are quickly gaining recognition.
